Rating by category:
Rather plain and small rooms. But you have everything you need.
General appearance of the hotel and rooms - Soviet "pansionat" of the 70s.
We were 1 1/2 km out of the centre of Funchal, but there were more nice restaurants and bars around the hotel then in Funchal centre. The hotel rooms are large and they all have a kitchenette and beautiful sea views.
It is very noisy! If I would go there once again I only want to be on the top floor with nobody above my head! When it is busy there are lines during breakfast and they are running out of things very quickly. Entertainment is poor.
- Pools (in + out) + Jacuzzi - Breakfast buffet - free WiFi in lobby
- upper floors have "stormy balconies" - buffet arrangements - cleanliness has potential
Great view from balcony on 6th floor. Nice indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Good value for money. Entertainment every night in Piano Bar (but no bar). Useful fridge and kitchenette in room.
Steep walk up hill to hotel. Beds not the best. Lack of bar in Piano Bar! but it was possible to order drinks.
We liked the kitchenette as we travelled with a baby
The lift was quite small. Our pram just fittet in, when the handle was folded up.
Reception staff were all very pleasant. We needed an iron and ironing board and cleaners brought one to the room.
Free WiFi only works in the foyer, not in the rooms. That is an extra €5 per day.
Nice bright room with a good sea view. useful kitchen facilities in room. Very nice balcony for a twin room. Free and secure car parking.
good breakfast, 2 pools, gym. We had been given a room in the 3 floor (we saw just a tiny piece of the sea from the balcony) so we asked to change the floor. Next day the hotel gave us a key from the room on the highest floor, where the view was great.
The place needs an airco.
Location, small kitchen in the room, good view from balcony, shuttle bus to Funchal from hotel, animation every evening.
Ants were in the room
Nice but basic room could do with a bit of a spruce up but for the price I can't really complain. Good facilities indoor and outdoor pools. Pleasant staff.
Would benefit if some rooms had double beds! I can understand some people being worried about the fairly steep hill from the road to the reception area. But after a couple of days you're up and down it like a mountain goat!!
Good location, nice view from the balcony, indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, jakuzzi, spa. Nice roof terrace with good view.
All hotel is outdated, room and bathroom were not very clean, tap in the bath leaking. Fridge needed to be defrosted and cleaned. Ants in the room. A bit noisy from the road which is next to hotel. TV in the room old and small, can't see anything if you want to watch it from your bed. Breakfast: poor choice and food quality, looks like they had the same beans for three days.
The view was very nice, we got a room on the 11th floor. The small kitchen was usefull in the room, and when the weather was a little bit windy the swimmingpool inside was lovely. Funchal is a little bit far away, 30 minutes walk, but doesn't difficult. Back to the hotel the bus was so usefull.
In the hotel the restaurant is not so good and expensive. If you would like to taste some Madeiran food rather go to the center, or cook something for yourself in the small kitchen.
The hotel is well located. We had a 20-25 minute walk to the centre of Funchal, but the good thing is that it is not up on any hill, which can be the problem of other hotels in Funchal. This one is close to the sea level. The hotel is simple, modest and old fashioned, but it's quite Ok considering the price paid. It's a quiet hotel and the breakfast is Ok.
When we arrived at the hotel they told us in the reception that we had a free bus to the city centre. The thing is that they don't explain it properly and although at first you think that it's a service of the hotel, what they don't tell you is that that bus works for all the hotels in the area (it's something public) and when it's full they go directly to Funchal. They don't drive pass the rest of the hotels, so you never know if it's late, if it's not coming etc If your hotel is not the first one on the list and considering the quantity of tourists in Funchal, don't count on it. Using the public transport is a better idea not to lose time
hotel is situated basically near the centre of funchal, everything is on hand,
old annoying/upset woman at reception with russian dialect...i guess
